So, if you have a business background and would like to create the business plan for this venture, please send me e-mail. I think we could finance this entire venture by just raising money from the doctors who would be on this ship.
Richard Morris and I have had several conversations on the subject of his company, Sea Structures Inc. Why Sea Structures? Morris has several patents pending on amazing technologies that allow him to create very low cost platforms for sea structures. His ingenious designs permit the creation of 1/4 acre of "land" for around $62,000. Check the listings near you, but that is very impressive for water-front property. Check out a book called _The Millennial Project_ (on the Oceania Mall) for more info on what can be done with the ocean to make money (tourism, ocean thermal energy conversion, mariculture, extracting magnesium from sea water, accreting concrete from sea water, culturing spirulina for beta carotene and other prime extracts, etc.), but right now think about ways to make money creating low cost structures for the ocean's surface. We need some information on key subjects: 1) How large is the industry? Annual sales for the last 5 years. 2) What are the major materials used by other sea platform manufacturers? 3) Who are the major players in the industry? How large are they by sales, employees, annual profits? 4) Where are these players located? 5) Who are the major customers presently? (Oil & gas exploration firms, travel resort firms, marine cargo firms, etc) 6) Who has expressed interest recently (magazine articles, newspaper articles, etc.)? What's in it for you? First, there's the prospect of starting a new country with a sensible level of government. If you believe the Republicans are going to rewrite America, go for it. If you are skeptical, give us a hand with the research. Second, there is the prospect of getting a new business started and growing. That means there will be jobs for a few key people. If you do much research and know your stuff about the industry, you might be planned into the company from the start. Where are we going from here? With answers (good or bad) to the above questions, we'll have a good start on some major holes in the business plan. We should have a draft by 1 March. That means we should be contacting investors to raise the $200K needed by late March. With luck, good contacts, and a solid plan, we should be able to raise that in 4 to 6 months. Finally, who the hell am I? I'm Jim Davidson, author of the _Atlantis Papers_, managing editor of _Visions of the Future_, President of the Houston Space Institute, BA History Columbia '85, MBA Marketing Rice '87, and one of only two Americans ever arrested for operating a space tourism company. Also, all around bon vivant. While you're researching, check out _Time_, 28 December 1990, page 17. Thanks for your help. Jim
Additional information about talking terminals from a friend of Arthur Torrey:
Um, the at sign thing is not universal, it won't help many with speech terminals, just a few of us, if he wants to be really blind user friendly, he won't use ascii graphics at all, but that is asking a lot, I realize. Perhaps a text warning before the graphic so a blind person could shut odd the talker and skip it would be better. About the lines of - and * and =, they are a pain, what I hear when I encounter one is "dash dash dash" as many times as there are dashes. Some speech terminals are more sophisticated and have the smarts to say "75 dashes", I can't afford one yet. [grin] Other things that he could remember are not to embed punctuation marks in words, like the ... and /. It is common to use the ... or slash without placing spaces around them as I just did, but it causes nearly all talking terminals to go into spell mode since you can't literally pronounce words like/this.
Originally, the Constitution simply said that our government would simply work off of donations. It has since been pointed out that by allowing people to donate an unlimited amount of money, we have made it possible for a few people to have an excessive influence over the government. Therefore the next version of the Constitution will say that the government will send everyone a voluntary donation bill every set time period (say monthly) and people will then get to pay between zero and twice the amount mentioned. The bill will also include an area for a person to explain why they have decided to pay the amount they mentioned.
The long debates that have been made over issues like this show the usefulness of including a lot of details in the Constitution. Over time, this has allowed people to point out details that could be improved.

In the spirt of SD10's Delta 180 program, we announce the creation of
the Virtual Brick to honor the team member(s) doing the most to hold
back progress.
This issue, the Virtual Brick goes to Jason Kohles for failing to link a web site to the oceania.org domain.
To lose ownership of the Brick, just finish the job. By the way, I could use a better graphic for the virtual brick.
