THE WEB GROWS

I would like to thank Steve Smith for providing 16 megs for the SS1+ machine that we run for the low, low, price of $0.00.

I would like to thank Steve Smith for taking over the web part of the Oceania Mall. Good luck Steve!

OCEANIA STILLS AND ANIMATION UPDATE

I would like to thank Dave Merriman for uploading oceanic graphics and sounds to help Jim Albea improve the stills and animations of Oceania that he is working on.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

>From Phillip Freivald:

I think that the reason for your "explosion," which is the reason that I discovered OCEANIA, is that you were put onto the "cool site of the day" site at http://www.infi.net/cool.html I know that a LOT of people check out the cool site, because it's..... well...... cool! Not to classify you with all the other cool sites (Star Trek, Entomology, Aardvark something-or-other, etc.) but I believe that the "cool site" seems to have been a major free advertisement for you! I subscribed just because I was curious as to what Oceania is, as I had never heard of it. As I read the site, I didn't even know if you were for real. I thought it was a joke! Anyway, just letting you know that I believe I found what appears to be at least a contributing factor in your "Web Explosion."

Phillip is obviously right and we received 38,141 accesses that day.

>From Rickie Timmons:

I'm sure that England thought the idea of independent new colony in America was pretty silly. People like Thomas Edison, Joe Montana, and George Foreman were probable told they were silly and maybe even made fun of as they went through the various stages of forging their dreams into reality. Anyone can dream, only a few of us have the fortitude to walk the winding road pot holed with disapointment to reach the forge with which to shape our dreams into reality. The trick is to live the dream, if it remains real to you then it does not matter what anyone else thinks.

SEA STRUCTURES INC. CONTINUED

I am establishing a mailing list for those who wish to read and comment on the business plan in progress for Sea Structures Inc. Let me know if you would like to be on this list. Note that just because you wish to read the final business plan does not necessarily mean that you would want to watch the plan in construction. This business plan is the most important project that The Atlantis Project is engaging in at the moment.

OCEANIA PIONEER JOURNAL

I would like to thank David Merriman for agreeing to publish this snail mail based newsletter for passport holders. If there are any topics that you wish to see in this newsletter, please let me know. Articles are also being solicited for this newsletter as well as ads. Note that I would be very glad to answer any detailed questions that you wish in the question and answer column of this newsletter.

MUTUAL LINKS

I would like to thank Mike Huben for listing us in his resources section of the Critiques Of Libertarianism web page. We will soon establish a mutual link to him.

I would like to thank Chris Cooper of QuoteCom (Stock Quotes on the Internet) for his offer to establish a mutual link.

PUBLICITY

I have now got this web on two cool lists and one hot topic list. I would be interested if anyone can point me out to any cool lists that I may have missed.

ELECTION FRAUD

One of the biggest misconceptions of users is that Usenet has no central authority. Technically, it has none, but an elite gang in charge has taken in control in reality. This has caused the problem of election fraud to migrate from the physical world to the virtual world of cyberspace.

Considering that I decided to create the country of Oceania based on my experience with election fraud in the U.S., this additional experience of election fraud has made my blood boil. I have been blocked in the past by having valid signatures for a ballot initiative being invalidated and I have also been defrauded by ballot stuffing.

My story:

1) I had an accepted posting for a RFD for soc.culture.oceania. My posting was accepted for the moderated group news.announce.newgroups 2) When I mentioned a spelling error to the moderator a few days later I was told that soc.culture.oceania was rejected and that I would have to seek the advice of an elite Usenet gang. 3) I spoke for a few days with this gang and was given permission to post a RFD for soc.culture.virtual.oceania. 4) When voting time came around, I asked when the vote would be and got no response from the person in charge of counting the votes. 5) Eventually I complained to the elite Usenet gang and they eventually responded saying that my suggested name was unacceptable and they provided no alternative name. Nor did they provide any concrete plan for finding a name acceptable to them.

Blocking access for a vote *is* a form of election fraud.

The culprits:

The gang is located at group-advice@uunet.uu.net. I spoke with David C. Lawrence/tale@uunet.uu.net and Una Smith/una@minerva.cis.yale.edu in this gang.

Finally, I was told by one observer:

"I've watched stuff like this on the nets for over 10 years now, and it's simply not possible (absent a specific and verified statement) to attribute anything that happens on the net to malice when it could just as well be explained by indifference, laziness, and/or stupidity."

I hope this person is right and the situation is quickly resolved.
